Attractions in Jaipur

Amber Fort (Amer Fort)

Originally the capital of the Kachhwaha Rajputs, Amber was ruled by Meena chiefs until the Kachhwaha clan took over. The fort as seen today was started by Raja Man Singh and expanded by Jai Singh I among others, until the capital shifted to Jaipur in 1727 .

Explore the Sheesh Mahal—the mirrored palace with intricate tile work and frescoes. The views of Maota Lake reflecting the fort are magical. A morning trek or jeep ride up avoids crowds .

Hawa Mahal

Constructed in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and designed by Lal Chand Ustad, it served as an airy screen for royal women (zenana) to observe street life without being seen. The façade of 953 jharokhas is designed to channel breezes, earning its name .

City Palace

Built between 1729–1732 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II (founder of Jaipur), this palace blends Rajput, Mughal, and European architectural styles. It served as the ceremonial and administrative seat of the Maharajas until 1949 .

Wander through the stunning courtyards and galleries. Don’t miss the museum’s collection of royal costumes, paintings, and weaponry. The Chandra Mahal’s view of the city is also worthwhile.

Jantar Mantar

Built between 1728–1738 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II to improve astronomical observations using his own Zij tables, the site originally employed over 23 astronomers. It remained operational with restorations into the 20th century .

Marvel at the massive Samrat Yantra—one of the world’s largest sundials. Early morning visits offer excellent light for photos and a quieter atmosphere to absorb the technical genius of its instruments.

Nahargarh Fort

Constructed in 1734 by Sawai Jai Singh II as a defensive and royal retreat, it formed part of Jaipur’s protective ring with Amer and Jaigarh Forts. Built on Aravalli ridges, it was renamed from Sudarshan Garh to Nahargarh in honor of Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose spirit was placated via an on-site temple .

The panoramic sunset view from the terrace is unrivalled. Inside, don’t miss Madhavendra Bhawan with its linked queen’s suites, delicate murals, Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace), wax museum and seasonal sculpture park .
